Geographical Loaction of Havelian:

Havelian is a town in Hazara Region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is situated in North of Islamabad at a distance of 110 KM on Silk route (Karakorum Highway),  on the banks of Dor River 12 KM short of south west of Abbottabad, lying at the foot hills of Himalayas. The town is a hub of Hazara culture and traditions. The countryside around Havelian is characterized by lush foothills.

Why we call this place "Havelian"?

Havelian literally means “The Mansions” which corresponds to the old residential Mansions and caravan-serai hosting the ancient caravans traveling along the silk route. Havelain experiences mild summers followed by rainy showers.

History of Havelian:

In 997 CE, Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, took over the Ghaznavid dynasty empire established by his father, Sultan Sebuktegin, In 1005 he conquered the Shahis in Kabul in 1005, and followed it by the conquests of Punjab region. The Delhi Sultanate and later Mughal Empire ruled the region. 

DuringBritish rule the current district of Abbottabad was created as a Tehsil of Hazara District.After the independence of Pakistan it remained a tehsil of Hazara until 1981, when the old Abbottabad Tehsil became a district. Subsequently the district was split into two tehsils, namely Abbottabad and Havelian.
